Rooth canal treatment

If the dental pulp (“nerve”) is inflamed or necrotic, it must be removed from the root canal to prevent the decay of the surrounding tissue and tooth loss. Radiographic images often show inflammatory processes in the bone surrounding such a tooth (abscess, granuloma or cyst). The root canal is processed and disinfected with special instruments and chemicals and obturated with gutta-percha cones. After the completed endodontic therapy, the tooth crown is restored with a filling, inlay or crown, depending on the damage degree.

Although tooth extraction seems to be the simpler and cheaper solution, in the end it is more costly because a missing tooth will have to be replaced by an implant or bridge. Therefore it is better, whenever possible, to save the tooth with endodontic treatment.

Caries is a degenerative disease of the hard dental tissues that appears on the surface of the tooth and progresses all the way to the pulp. Caries treatment is a procedure that starts with the removal of the decay, after which the tooth is restored by filling the area where the affected tissue was removed.

Thanks to the contemporary technology, filling can be done during only one visit at the dentist’s office, regardless of the caries type (superficial or deep). However, if the caries has reached the pulp, the tooth can no longer be treated and the nerve has to be removed.

Caries is a progressive chronic disease of the hard dental tissues that eventually destroys the teeth. Most frequently the disease starts with the demineralisation of the enamel that is visible on the tooth surface and progresses in depth and width affecting the surrounding structures of the dental tissue. Therefore caries must be removed and the tooth must be restored into its previous form, colour and dimension.

Tooth restoration implies the filling of the cavity (hole) in the tooth remaining after the caries has been removed. Since the tooth is actually filled, the procedure is referred to as filling.

Ceramic fillings are most durable dental fillings. They are highly resistant, long lasting, but also most acceptable from the aesthetic point of view, because they are hardly visible. Special materials and the development of advanced methods allow for a restoration of teeth which correspond in colour and form to the previous healthy tooth, maintaining its quality and longevity.
